Leggin’ It for Literacy hits the streets

The ninth annual Leggin’ It for Literacy 5K Fun Run, presented by the LaGrange Junior Woman’s Club (LJWC) to benefit Troup County CLCP, is scheduled for Saturday, September 26 at 7:00pm in downtown LaGrange.
For the second year in a row, the festivities will take place under the stars in the Country’s BBQ parking lot between Vernon and Broad Streets. There will be activities for kids and demonstrations from Towne Fitness starting at 7:30. Music from the popular band, “PAPA”, featuring Peter and Perrin Alford, will get the crowd moving before the start of the fun run and walk.
In addition to their sponsorship, the LaGrange Junior Woman’s Club organizes the annual event with volunteers coming from the ranks of their membership. For LJWC member Lisa Sapp, “This is my 3rd year as race director and I absolutely enjoy helping and supporting the event.” LJWC President Amanda Smallwood says, “We are very proud to be sponsors for the race.”
“I am grateful for the support from the LaGrange Junior Woman’s Club. Their efforts are critical to the success of Leggin’ It for Literacy,” said Debbie Burdette, Executive Director of Troup County CLCP. “Purchase a t-shirt, run or walk if you can, or just bring a chair and join the crowd. Leggin’ It for Literacy provides the community with an opportunity to have fun and hear some great music while also supporting the efforts to erase illiteracy in Troup County.”
Registration fee is $25 and all race participants will receive a long sleeve t-shirt and Country’s Famous Barbecue Sandwich and Sweet Tea. Registration begins at 7 pm on the day of the event. The 5K Run begins at 10 pm and the1 Mile Fun Run is off at 10:05 pm. Children may participate in the Tot Trot that begins at 7:30 pm. For more information, contact Lisa Sapp at 706.594.6266
Troup County CLCP is a collaborative between local business, education, government and community. To accomplish our goal of a certified literate community, the CLCP encourages a love of reading as a foundation for lifelong learning and supports those programs with similar goals. CLCP promotes literacy awareness and programs to assist students in need of basic literacy education.
