Mama Jama brings holiday cheer to parade crowd

Our second year parade float was filled not only with Christmas spirit, but also future and former high school and college graduates.
Surrounded by children wearing banners with their expected high school graduation date and future occupations, and riding a float decorated to support the parade theme, “It’s a Wonderful Life,” Mama Jama, the popular children’s storyteller, greeted hundreds of children of all ages gathered along the route of the recent LaGrange Christmas Parade.
As children all along the route called her name and burst into the Mama Jama theme, Debbie Burdette, Executive Director of Troup CLCP and alter ego of Mama Jama reminded everyone of how important it is to focus on reading and education every day. “It truly is a wonderful Life in Troup County where Literacy is a Lifestyle,” said Burdette.
Sponsored by Troup BELL, Literacy Volunteers of Troup County, United Way Success by Six and West Georgia Technical College Adult Education Program, the float featured a large version of “It’s a Wonderful Life” along with a Christmas tree decorated with children’s books. Employees, board members and other volunteers from every agency contributed to the creation of the float and walked the parade route.
