CLCP Spelling Bee set for February 22
January 27 2010
LaGrange, GA
Can you BEElieve it’s time for the 12th annual CLCP/ Corporate/ community Spelling Bee? This year’s contest will be held on Monday, February 22 at 7:00pm in the Callaway Center on the campus of West Georgia Technical College, 220 Fort Drive in LaGrange.
Teams of three spellers, sponsored by companies and individuals from across the community, will compete for the ultimate recognition as Spelling Bee Champions. Debbie Burdette, Executive Director of Troup CLCP, encourages everyone to turnout for an evening of fun saying, “You don’t have to BEE on a team to have a great time at the Spelling Bee.”
Jack Morman and Renae Willis will once again serve as emBEE and pronouncer respectively. Local educator and entertainer Carol Cain returns in her role as bouncer bee, serenading each team as they leave the stage following their elimination.
Everyone will have a chance to win door prizes contributed by area companies and merchants. New for audience members this year is the CLCP word find. Those who complete the puzzle and submit their entry will be eligible for a special door prize at the conclusion of the evening’s activities.
For readers looking for great bargain books, there will be a selection of gently-used adult fiction and nonfiction books for sale beginning at 12 Noon on the day of the Bee. Representatives from Junior Service League of LaGrange will also be selling their latest cookbook, so come early and browse through a variety of great books.
Troup CLCP is continuing to make a difference in our community and education is becoming a priority for everyone. Burdette reminds us of the real reason for the Spelling Bee, “Your support will allow us to continue emphasizing the importance of education to everyone across Troup County, from new mothers to senior citizens. Come out and cheer for your favorite team but more importantly demonstrate your support for our efforts to eliminate illiteracy in our community.”
