Chloe Harrell presents 217 books to Mama Jama to benefit the CLCP Summer Reading Program
For most little girls turning six years old, birthdays mean Barbie’s or teddy bears, ponies or a princess. Chloe Harrell, the daughter of Diane and John Harrell of LaGrange, is different from most six year olds. With a little help from her mother, Chloe has turned her birthday into an annual book drive to benefit Troup County CLCP.
Diane Harrell explained why the birthday book collection has become an annual event, “Many children in Troup County are not fortunate enough to have books in their home and this is a way for Chloe to give to the community.” Harrell also expressed her gratitude to Chloe’s friends and their parents saying, “thanks to your generosity in giving, Mama Jama will have plenty of books to distribute during this year’s summer reading program at Benjamin Harvey Hill Homes.”
Debbie Burdette, Troup CLCP Executive Director and alter ego of Mama Jama, said, “I am very grateful to the Harrell family for setting such a great example and Chloe is such a wonderful child to give her birthday gifts to those less fortunate children in the area. This year’s donation of 217 books will ensure the children in the summer reading program receive at least 5 different books to take home and keep for their very own.”
Troup County CLCP is a collaborative between local business, education, government and community. To accomplish our goal of a certified literate community, the CLCP encourages a love of reading as a foundation for lifelong learning and supports those programs with similar goals. CLCP promotes literacy awareness and programs to assist students in need of basic literacy education.
