America’s Promise Story
November 02 2010

Mayor Lukken
Once upon a time, there was a county named Troup
It was the envy of Georgia, because we had a big “SCOOP”!
General Powell sent out a call for the best communities in the land, and we all knew we had that one in hand.
He was looking for a community with five promises to uphold,
So our youth could grow up and be strong and bold.
First off, a healthy start for our children is a need,
we have BELL, Success by Six, and First Steps to help them succeed.
Next we looked for adults who care and found in LaGrange, Hogansville and West Point, there were plenty there.
Safe places are needed for our youth to spend time, so the ladder of success they can more easily climb.
Effective education in Troup County you will see, it’s all about learning, failure is not an option and a high school graduate each youth will be.
Giving back to the community is an important lesson, too.
All children must learn that helping others is something they must do.
On a September morn in Washington D.C., many were gathered to see who it would be.
The names were called one by one. We soon found out Troup County had won.
America’s Promise had selected Troup County to be one of the nation’s 100 best communities.
Our youth are our future, that we all know. And we have made the promise to help them flourish and grow.
Now America knows what we have all known, Troup County is the best place for our youth to call home.
