Tennis Players Turn up Heat on Illiteracy
The eighth annual Charlie Joseph’s Lobbin for Literacy tennis tournament, to benefit Troup County Certified Literate Community Program, is scheduled for June 23-26 at the McCluskey Tennis Center. With competition across several skill levels, this tournament is one that tennis players across the community do not want to miss.
Proceeds from the tournament benefit the CLCP Summer Reading Program in the Benjamin Harvey Hill Homes community. Held during the months of June and July, the CLCP Summer Reading Program provides books, arts and crafts supplies, school supplies and snacks for participating children. Mama Jama and other special guests provide the children with stories and encouragement to continue reading during the summer months.
“While the players all want to win their matches, the real winner is the fight against illiteracy in Troup County,” said Debbie Burdette, Executive Director of Troup County CLCP. “Once again this year players can visit
http://www.troupclcp.org and register online to participate. For those who choose not to play but still want to support the tournament, they can donate online through our secure website. Whether you’re on the court or watching from the bleachers, your support helps to ensure another successful Lobbin for Literacy tournament.”
Troup County CLCP is a collaborative between local business, education, government and community. To accomplish our goal of a certified literate community, the CLCP encourages a love of reading as a foundation for lifelong learning and supports those programs with similar goals. CLCP promotes literacy awareness and programs to assist students in need of basic literacy education.
