Children gather to listen to Mama Jama during story time at the CLCP summer reading program
Troup CLCP launched its annual summer reading program for children at the LaGrange Housing Authority with an appearance by noted reader, Mama Jama. Throughout the summer, Mama Jama will be reading the book Clementine with discussions after each chapter and providing snacks.
To promote year-round reading, each attendee will select at least two books to take home to read. Over the course of the summer break the students will receive over 14 books to keep. The CLCP has been conducting the Summer Reading Program in the Housing Authority for 8 years recognizing the importance of keeping the children reading over the summer.
“Our hope is that by providing books of their very own, children will grow to love reading and all that comes from spending time with an entertaining story,” said Debbie Burdette, Troup CLCP Executive Director. The Summer Reading Program is funded from proceeds from the Lobbin' For Literacy Tennis Tournament.
