Chloe Harrell presents 217 books to Mama Jama to benefit the CLCP Summer Reading Program
For most little girls turning six years old, birthdays mean Barbie’s or teddy bears, ponies or a princess. Chloe Harrell, the daughter of Diane and John Harrell of LaGrange, is different from most six year olds. With a little help from her mother, Chloe has turned her birthday into an annual book drive to benefit Troup County CLCP.

Debbie Burdette created the character of Mama Jama 16 years ago to help teach Bible studies for her son’s Vacation Bible School at First Presbyterian Church. Since then, Mama Jama has become a beloved storyteller and champion for literacy.
One of the first floor study lounges in the Frank and Laura Lewis Library at LaGrange College was lively on Super Bowl Sunday as it was dedicated in honor of Troup County literacy advocate Debbie Burdette.
She is well known locally as storyteller Mama Jama, appearing to groups and on local access television, telling stories and promoting reading. She also is the executive director of the Troup County Certified Literate Community Program.

Our very own Debbie Burdette has been busy, busy traveling Troup County handing out dictionaries to all third grade children. Beginning on October 6 at Cannon Street Elementary and finishing up on November 23 at West Point Elementary school, Debbie is delivering over 1,000 dictionaries to each and every elementary school. A special thank-you goes to Walmart Distribution center for underwriting the costs of the project.
